You don't need spandex, but you do need these basics.

1. A Solid U-Lock

Cable locks are useless. Get a hardened steel U-lock (Kryptonite or Abus).

2. Lights (Front & Rear)

It gets dark early. Be seen.

• Front: White light (blinking for day, solid for night).
• Rear: Red light (always blinking).

3. A Flat Kit

LA streets have debris. Carry a spare tube, tire levers, and a mini-pump.
